A COMMITMENT TO BETTER
We’re proud to be part of the global B Corp community, joining organisations committed to using business as a force for good. Becoming a B Corp is an important milestone for Armourcoat, but the principles behind it are not new to us.
Our Mission
“Armourcoat is committed to creating the best possible sustainable luxury finishes that make a positive impact on the health and longevity of the planet and its inhabitants.”
OUR B IMPACT JOURNEY
Armourcoat achieved B Corp Certification under B Lab’s V1.6 standards, following an independent assessment across Governance, Workers, Community, Environment and Customers, with an overall B Impact Score of 83.1.
The B Lab Standards continue to evolve. The latest standards introduce new requirements across seven social, environmental and governance impact topics, moving beyond the previous points-based assessment. Our focus now is working towards these new standards, using them as a framework to build on the progress we have already made and identify where we can continue to improve.
A NATURAL PROGRESSION
B Corp Certification recognises companies that meet verified standards for social and environmental performance, accountability and transparency. It considers the wider impact of how a business operates — on its people, customers, communities and the environment.
For Armourcoat, certification provides independent recognition of an approach that has been shaped over many years. For the past four decades, we have explored natural materials, developed new finishes and refined how they are manufactured and applied. Responsibility, craftsmanship and long-term thinking have grown alongside that process, influencing the materials we choose, the products we create and the way we work.
B Corp gives us an independent framework to measure that approach, demonstrate our progress and identify where we can continue to improve.
LAYERS OF EXPERIENCE
Curiosity about materials has always been part of Armourcoat. In our laboratory, workshop and on site, we test, develop and refine our finishes, combining technical knowledge with the experience of the people who manufacture and apply them.
That knowledge has been built layer by layer over many years. From experimenting with formulations and understanding the character of natural materials to developing new techniques and perfecting a finish by hand, it informs how our products perform and how they ultimately become part of an interior.
It is an approach that continues to shape the way we work today and how we develop the materials of tomorrow.
RESPONSIBILITY THROUGH MATERIALS
Material choice sits at the heart of what we do. Our approach prioritises natural mineral ingredients including lime and clay, alongside recycled materials such as crushed marble. We consider not only how a material looks and feels, but how it is made, how it performs and the impact it leaves behind.
We are continuing to strengthen the environmental information available across our ranges, providing architects and designers with greater clarity around embodied carbon, recycled content and use of natural resources.
Our core product ranges are supported by independently verified environmental documentation and certification, including Environmental Product Declarations (EPDs), Health Product Declarations (HPDs) and Indoor Air Comfort Gold certification.
Alongside our work at product level, we have measured our Scope 1 and Scope 2 greenhouse gas emissions and currently offset these. Our next focus is Scope 3, which will give us a more complete understanding of the impact across our wider value chain and help inform future carbon reduction priorities.
Greater transparency helps us make better decisions and gives designers and specifiers clearer information with which to make theirs.
THE PEOPLE BEHIND ARMOURCOAT
Materials are only part of our story. Behind every Armourcoat finish is a network of people developing formulations, making products, producing samples, working with designers and hand-applying materials.
Many of our longest-serving employees have been with Armourcoat for decades. Their experience represents an important part of the business: specialist knowledge built over time and shared with the next generation.
Investing in those people, skills and long-term careers is as important to responsible business as the materials we choose. It helps preserve craftsmanship while allowing us to continue learning, developing and improving the way we work.
AN ONGOING COMMITMENT
B Corp Certification is a milestone, not a finishing point. It gives us a framework to hold ourselves accountable, measure our impact and keep improving as Armourcoat continues to evolve.
We will continue to build on our environmental and social performance, invest in our people and skills, improve transparency around our products and take responsibility for the wider impact of the way we operate.
Our journey is more than the materials we are known for, it is about the people who make them, the knowledge behind them, the way they are made and the spaces they ultimately help to create.
