Bringing harmony to a statement in design
On a prominent corner in the heart of the City of London stands 2 Gresham St- a 10 storey, 180,000sq ft office redevelopment that now offers a calm, understated welcome.
The BREEAM Excellent rated building, remodelled and refurbished by Wilmott Dixon, has used high quality materials throughout to achieve the “statement in design” conceived by architects Buckley Gray Yeoman. The double height reception to the Grade A office complex thus is finished with Armourcoat luxury sustainable finishes, specifically Istria polished plaster to the high-level walls and Acoustic Plaster to the walls and ceiling- which rise to 3.2m.
Chosen to work in harmony with the marble low level walls and floor, the Armourcoat finishes bring tonal variations that soften the area whilst maintain the high-end ambience. Buckley Gray Yeoman chose a cool beige for the Istria and pale grey for the Acoustic Plaster from Armourcoat’s new palette of 105 colours.
Istria- named after the natural building stone used in Venice- blends slaked lime and recycled marble powder to achieve ingrained surface movement. The Acoustic Plaster is specially formulated to absorb sound and softens the reverberations inherent in hard surfaces, particularly in large open spaces.
The Armourcoat finishes were carefully selected to work in harmony with the marble chosen for the reception, and to compliment the palette of smoked oak, white marble and bronze. The natural, sustainable and high-quality credentials of Armourcoat made it a natural choice in such a prestigious project. The Acoustic Plaster particularly, with its sound absorption capability, helps create a softness to the atrium, making it a welcoming, calm environment.
