Materials And Environment

Materials and environment

Modern designers now face the challenge of considering the lifelong environmental impact of architectural projects. Responsibility doesn’t end after the initial specification. They need to view the entire lifecycle of project components from raw materials to packaging to application and service life.

While many companies pay lip service to sourcing sustainable materials Armourcoat’s environmental commitment lies at the heart of the company. The main raw ingredients of Armourcoat Polished Plaster are lime together with recycled marble powders specially crushed and graded as a by product of marble slab and tile manufacturing. This creates a positive environmental impact by intervention ensuring offcut marble is reused rather than land filled. The plaster is packed in paper sacks using a large proportion of recycled paper and delivered on recycled pallets from the food industry.

Green credentials

Coloured with natural pigments, Armourcoat Polished Plasters emit negligible VOCs (Volatile Organic Compounds) and are stable and resistant to UV light. The finishes are also building friendly being vapour permeable allowing structures to breathe. Armourcoat has three Environmental Statements (E1, E2 and E3) which can be found on the Specification Information page.

Product innovation - Armourcoat’s green policy considers sourcing of all raw ingredients from manufacturing, packaging, application and in-service life. The company researches, develops and manufactures all brand products and controls a worldwide distribution operation into eighty countries.

Recycled content - the main ingredient of Armourcoat Polished Plaster is marble powder. The coloured marble powders used within our recipes are the by product of the marble slab and tile industry. This enables us to achieve up to 25% pre consumer recycled content within our finishes. Armourcoat Polished Plaster products qualify for USGBC LEED credits with MR4.1 and EQ4.2.

Building friendly

Being vapour permeable Armourcoat Polished Plaster allows structures to breathe. This offers improved indoor air quality and makes the finishes ideal for old or historic buildings constructed without a modern damp course.

Environmentally friendly – unlike paint Armourcoat Polished Plaster products have zero or low VOCs (Volatile Organic Compounds). Many are ammonia and formaldehyde free.

Tough and durable – Armourcoat Polished Plaster offers a permanent wall finish lasting the life of the building. Our stringent and comprehensive product test data provides confidence to both specifier and client. Armourcoat offers a 10 years materials and workmanship guarantee for its products.
